Ingredients
- 12 oz penne pasta
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 item yellow onion, diced
- 3 item garlic cloves, minced
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 cup grated parmesan
- 1/2 cup fresh basil, torn
Instructions
- Cook pasta in salted water until al dente; reserve 1/2 cup pasta water.
- Saute onion in olive oil until soft, then add garlic and cook 1 minute.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes; simmer 10 minutes.
- Reduce heat and stir in cream and parmesan until smooth.
- Toss pasta with sauce, adding pasta water as needed for a silky finish.
- Fold in basil and serve with extra parmesan.
