Creamy Tomato Basil Pasta (test)

Ingredients

  • 12 oz penne pasta
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 item yellow onion, diced
  • 3 item garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan
  • 1/2 cup fresh basil, torn

Instructions

  1. Cook pasta in salted water until al dente; reserve 1/2 cup pasta water.
  2. Saute onion in olive oil until soft, then add garlic and cook 1 minute.
  3. Stir in crushed tomatoes, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes; simmer 10 minutes.
  4. Reduce heat and stir in cream and parmesan until smooth.
  5. Toss pasta with sauce, adding pasta water as needed for a silky finish.
  6. Fold in basil and serve with extra parmesan.
